PocketopTM Ships US$7 Million Worth of its Wireless PDA Keyboards to Retailers
60,000 units hit US retail shelves in record time, with an additional 20,000 on order
JUNE 27, 2002 - Vancouver, Canada
PocketopTM Computer Corporation, an innovative design company creating input solutions for the mobile handheld device market, today announced it has shipped 60,000 units of its innovative PDA portable keyboard to North American retailers, translating to US$7 million in retailer sales revenue. By leveraging the strong distribution and marketing expertise of its established North American retail partner, Pocketop was able to quickly secure scarce retail shelf space for its first product within nine weeks of production.
"From the beginning, we have focused on getting our keyboard into the US retail channel as quickly and as economically as possible," said Bill Wrixon, CEO of Pocketop. "By doing all the design in-house and outsourcing manufacturing and distribution to strategic partners, we were able to minimize costs and quickly meet the demand of users seeking more efficient input solutions for their PDAs. Fast retail penetration allows us to execute on our plans for distribution in other channels such as e-commerce, enterprise and international sales."
"A significant trend in the PDA market is the rapidly growing use of portable keyboards and integrated keypads, as more users are finding that keyboard-based input is more comfortable and efficient for note-taking and data entry," said Todd Kort, Principal Analyst for Gartner Dataquest. "Improving portable keyboard designs are critical in easing the transition from stylus-based input."
The Pocketop Keyboard is the world's first wireless and universally compatible keyboard with traditional touch-typing keyboard functionality. The keyboard, marketed by retail channel partner Micro Innovations as the Wireless Link Keyboard, is available at US retail outlets including CompUSA, Staples and Radio Shack for a retail price of US$119. A major reason the keyboard has been rapidly accepted into the retail market is because Pocketop designers solved the multi-SKU inventory problem at retail by offering compatibility with most Palm and PocketPC devices in just one box, as opposed to fourteen or more SKUS offered by the market leader.
